ECOSOC

Rwanda is a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The council is one of the six main organs of the UN and is the central body for coordinating the economic and social work of the UN system by advancing three dimensions of sustainable development- economic, social and environmental.
The key priorities of the Rwanda Mission in regards to ECOSOC are the following:

  • The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF)
  • UN Women: Rwanda is a member of the Executive Board and actively advocates for UN Women- their mission and activities. Our contribution to the Executive Board is to share best practices from our experience of having a progressive approach regarding gender equality and women and girl’s empowerment.
  • Other agencies coordinated by ECOSOC: The Rwanda Mission works closely with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to highlight the central role played by women as stakeholders in development.
