Announcement - KWIBUKA31 Commemoration event - 12.04.2025
7 April 2025 marked the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda under the theme "Remember-Unite-Renew".
KWIBUKA means “to remember” in Kinyarwanda and the 7th of April marks the beginning of the genocide perpetrated against members of the Tutsi by the Hutu extremist-led government. Within just over 100 days, as many as 1 million Tutsi were systematically murdered.
On this occasion, the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Germany in partnership with IBUKA Deutschland, the Rwandan community and friends of Rwanda will organize a ‘Walk to remember’ to honor the victims, to stand in solidarity with the survivors of the Genocide and join together to prevent such atrocities from occurring ever again. It also presents an opportunity to reflect on Rwanda's journey of healing, reconciliation and nation-building.
The ‘Walk to Remember’ will be held in Berlin on 12.04.2025 and will start at 12:00 at Brandenburger Tor, Platz des 18 März, 10117 Berlin followed by a commemorative ceremony at Friedrichstraße 158-164, 10117 Berlin.
