Rwanda Participates in the 121st Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers in Brussels

Brussels, Belgium – H.E. Ambassador Igor Cesar, Ambassador of Rwanda to Germany, joined the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, at the 121st Session of the Council of Ministers of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) in Brussels.

The Council of Ministers, a principal decision-making body of the OACPS, brought together Ministers and senior representatives from Member States to deliberate on strategic priorities shaping the Organisation's future. The session focused on implementing the Malabo Declaration, institutional reform, operationalising the Samoa Agreement, and enhancing coordination on common issues in multilateral forums.

In his statement, Minister Nduhungirehe reaffirmed Rwanda's commitment to strengthening the OACPS as an effective platform for cooperation among Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific. He underscored that the Organisation derives its strength from its ability to promote practical South-South cooperation and coordinated engagement in multilateral forums.

The Minister further highlighted that by working together, OACPS Member States can amplify their collective voice and advance shared priorities in global governance, climate action, sustainable development, and other common issues. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to address global challenges while fostering inclusive and sustainable development across member countries.

Rwanda continues to regard the OACPS as an important multilateral platform that promotes dialogue, solidarity, and mutually beneficial partnerships among its Member States, contributing to shared prosperity and the achievement of common development objectives.

Strengthening Rwanda–Botswana Relations

On the margins of the 121st Session of the OACPS Council of Ministers, Minister Nduhungirehe also held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations of the Republic of Botswana.

The two Ministers discussed opportunities to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Rwanda and Botswana, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The meeting reaffirmed both countries' commitment to deepening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation in areas that contribute to their peoples' development and prosperity.

H.E. Ambassador Igor Cesar's participation alongside the Minister reflects Rwanda's continued commitment to active diplomatic engagement and constructive collaboration with partners across the Africa-Caribbean-Pacific region, while advancing bilateral partnerships that support the country's foreign policy priorities.
